as city-dwelling birds who tend to stick to the streets and not the sky, they are often called the rodents of the bird community. these poor pigeons can be found all around san francisco eating scraps of trash, limping on one leg, i even heard one mumble, "spare change?" once. these mistreated creatures choose to live amongst us humans who continue to treat them with disgust, just like we do rats, and human street-dweller. poor pigeons.

cafe au lait .
since the ruler of the internet in my space of living is determine to overcharge for something, like the internet which is based on sharing, i have taken my blog outside and down the hill to a french cafe of which i frequent solely in the mornings. it transforms at night. by day, all of the tables are consumed by the morning people sipping cafe au laits and working diligently from their laptops. there is the inescapable aroma of fresh bread and pastries and espresso. i used to think that cafe culture should be dominated by conversations, filled with artists, writers, revolutionaries. then i went to north beach and saw those literary revolutionaries of today... it is a sad interpretation of european cafes of yesterday. now cafes, american ones, are full of individuals on the internet, having conversations on their computers as opposed to in person. writing blogs... and now i am one of them. my recent discovery of the importance of the computer has now changed my view. every once in a while, i take a break from the computer to look out the window to the outside world. a new view.

a snail with a south paw.
today i did exactly what i wanted to.... nothing. a nothing that embodies a something. a nothing that does not earn money, nor is it eventful but sometimes it means so much more than doing A something. i think back to the greek philosophers... if they were always doing something... how would they have gotten anything accomplished? if you are always keeping busy by doing things, when do you have time to think? with so much to think about, a day of nothing was needed to sort through historical anomalies and present day replications of the past. one of the many esoteric things i learned today was that scientists have determined that certain species of animals that are "lefties" (myself being so inclined) are more likely to win in battle against predators. the specific animals that were studied were snails and crabs. i determined that if i were an animal i would be a left-handed snail. a warrior with a slow socratic outlook. grapes and boys.... after a few more wrinkles in the gray matter i decided to indulge in a few of my favorite things....but where are the boys, i ask??? where? at the symposium of course. platonically, of course.

let's get textual...
after reading about the portmanteau of web and log "blog" i wonder who reads these things... what people choose to write about... and for what reason. hmmm. reportage. a diary written with the knowledge of an audience. not so candid, is it? current events and interpretations of them. literary purposes. for whatever reason, i have chosen to speak, texually, that is. i choose self-induced alienation with one portal to the outside world. this machine i'm typing on. i already miss that courier font and the smell of ink. but... it's hard to remain old school when you are a part of the new school by birth. a new process or a lost one? we shall soon reach some conclusions.... let's get textual.
